Cancer Research FreeWill Service

The Cancer Research UK FreeWill Service offers people over 55 the opportunity to make or update their Will, with Cancer Research UK bearing the cost of a standard Will.

We have teamed up with Cancer Research UK to offer this service to anyone who is aged 55 or over. The service is for single wills, joint or ‘mirror’ wills or codicils. If you are making a joint or ‘mirror’ will only one of the couple has to be aged 55 or over.

Users of the FreeWill Service are under no obligation to leave anything in their Will to Cancer Research UK or any other charity.

The only condition of the FreeWill Service is that the Client must complete all sections of a confidential client information form stating whether or not they have included a legacy to Cancer Research UK and if so, the details of the legacy. The information provided in this form is not legally binding but will be used to assess the potential future benefit of the Scheme to the charity.

The costs of the FreeWill Service are met out of Cancer Research UK’s fundraising budget. The charity controls the number of Wills that are written by allocating payment coupons to us. Further allocations are made subject to the 'measuring benefits and costs' guidelines, which can be found on Cancer Research UK’s website. We therefore cannot guarantee that this service will always be available as it depends on whether it is cost effective for the charity. We suggest you contact us as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

The key points about the FreeWill Service:

The Cancer Research UK FreeWill Service has been set up under terms that have been agreed with the Charity Commission and Cancer Research UK takes regular consultation from External Counsel to ensure it meets strict rules of fairness.

Users of the FreeWill Service are under no obligation to leave anything in their Will to Cancer Research UK or any other charity.

Advice given by participating solicitors is entirely independent of the charity.

The aims of the FreeWill Service:

To provide easy public access to independent legal advice regarding Will writing.

To make it easier, for those already thinking about leaving a legacy to charity in general or to Cancer Research UK specifically, to do so.

Further information regarding the FreeWill Service can be found on Cancer Research UK’s website at:
